Innovative Wall Graphic for School of Visual Concepts
School of Visual Concepts is a place for creatives to learn cutting edge tools of the trade from top pros. When they moved to their new location near South Lake Union, they wanted to display their brand in an innovative way.
Larry Asher, creative director at Worker Bees ( a Seattle Marketing Firm) and renowned teacher at several Washinton State Universities as well as SVC , was the visionary behind portraying their logo using forced perspective techniques.
Wikipedia defines forced perspective as a technique utilizing optical illusion to change the perspective of an object. This concept is often used in photography, like this Leaning Tower of Pisa image and in video, such as The Lord of the Rings.
Larry brought Studio 3 Signs in to execute the project. Having never done a job quite like this, we were excited to accept the challenge.
After doing extensive research we decided to use a light projector. The image of SVC‘s logo was projected onto multiple surfaces, and our muralist painted over the light. When done, the image appears as a clean logo when viewed from the correct perspective, but from all other angles appears jumbled. This video is a great representation of how this is done.
