Swedish Medical Center: 100 Plus Years in Seattle
In 1910 Swedish Hospital was founded by Dr. Nils Johanson, a surgeon and Swedish Immigrant. Initially the hospital hosted 24 beds, but as it grew the Board of Trustees acquired a newly made facility on Summit and Columbia, which would become the cornerstone of Swedish Medical Center/First Hill.
in the following decades to come there would be many new additions as well as the enhancement of many facilities.
Nineteen-thirty-two saw the opening of the first cancer-care-center west of the Mississippi. By 1975, Swedish was able to offer the area its first independent day-surgery program, and in 1980 Seattle General Hospital closed and merged with Swedish.
In 1992 Ballard Community Hospital joined the Swedish Family, as well as the merging of resources between Providence Seattle Medical Center and Swedish Medical Center The Providence location is now called Swedish Medical Center/Cherry Hill.
In late 2009 Swedish began a scheduled opening of a state-of-the-art medical center in Issaquah. The following year, Stevens Hospital became affiliated with Swedish through a creative lease and management material and is now Swedish Medical Center/Edmonds.
More recently, a primary care facility at The Landing in Renton, an outdoor shopping village,is scheduled to open.
Swedish Hospital and its various care facilities have been an integral part of the Seattle’s growth and history throughout the past century. Studio 3 Signs is honored to have partnered with them through several of these milestones. We’ve enjoyed putting together media packages for them including, banners, window graphics, flags, and vehicle graphics.
